Parable Chrome Extension Privacy Policy

Parable ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how the Parable Chrome Extension ("Extension") collects, uses, and shares information when you install and use our browser extension.

Overview

The Parable Chrome Extension displays engagement badges on Planning Center Online profiles. The Extension works in conjunction with your Parable account and requires authentication to function.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Account Credentials: When you sign in through WorkOS, we receive authentication tokens to verify your identity and maintain your session.
• Organization Information: Your Parable organization ID and name to associate you with the correct account.

Information Collected Automatically

• Authentication Tokens: Access and refresh tokens stored locally in your browser to maintain your authenticated session.
• Page Context: The Extension detects when you are viewing a person's profile on Planning Center Online (people.planningcenteronline.com/people/*) to display relevant engagement badges.
• Planning Center Person IDs: When viewing a person's profile, the Extension extracts the person's Planning Center ID from the URL to fetch their engagement data.

Information We Do NOT Collect

• Browsing History: We do not track or store your browsing history.
• Personal Data from Planning Center: The Extension does not read or store personal information (names, emails, phone numbers) from Planning Center profiles.
• Keystrokes or Form Data: We do not monitor your keyboard input or form submissions.
• Data from Other Websites: The Extension only operates on Planning Center Online and does not access data from other websites.

How We Use Information

We use the information collected to:

• Authenticate Your Session: Verify you have a valid Parable account and maintain your login state.
• Display Engagement Badges: Fetch and display engagement scores and badges for Planning Center profiles you view.
• Provide a Seamless Experience: Cache badge data briefly (5 minutes) to improve performance when viewing the same profile multiple times.

Data Storage

Local Storage

The Extension stores the following data locally in your browser using Chrome's secure storage API:

• Access Token: Authenticate API requests to Parable
• Refresh Token: Obtain new access tokens when expired
• User Information: Your name, email, and user ID
• Organization: Your Parable organization ID and name
• Theme Preference: Your preferred color theme (light/dark/system)

Remote Storage

Badge data is not stored locally. The Extension fetches engagement data from Parable's servers in real-time when you view a person's profile.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or lease your personal information to third parties.

We may share information with:

• WorkOS: Our authentication provider, which handles secure sign-in. WorkOS processes authentication data according to their Privacy Policy (workos.com/privacy).
• Service Providers: Third-party services that help us operate our services, bound by contractual obligations to protect your data.
• Legal Requirements: When required by law, subpoena, or legal process.

Third-Party Services

The Extension interacts with the following third-party services:

Browser Permissions

The Extension requires the following Chrome permissions:

• storage: Store authentication tokens and preferences locally
• activeTab: Access the current Planning Center tab to inject badges
• identity: Facilitate secure OAuth sign-in through Chrome
• tabs: Detect when you navigate to a person's profile

Data Retention

• Local Data: Authentication tokens and preferences remain stored until you sign out or uninstall the Extension.
• Cached Badge Data: Badge data is cached in memory for 5 minutes and is cleared when you close your browser.

Your Rights and Choices

• Sign Out: You can sign out at any time through the Extension popup, which clears all stored authentication data.
• Uninstall: Removing the Extension deletes all locally stored data.
• Account Deletion: Contact us to request deletion of your Parable account and associated data.

Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information:

• Authentication uses industry-standard OAuth 2.0 with PKCE flow
• Tokens are stored in Chrome's secure storage API
• All network communication uses HTTPS encryption
• Badge UI is isolated using Shadow DOM to prevent interference

Children's Privacy

The Extension is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date and, where appropriate, through the Extension or via email.
