Parable vs Holy Insights · updated 26 August 2026

One prepares Monday’s metrics. The other follows the question down to the people.

Holy Insights is the sharpest new dashboard in this comparison: low-priced, multi-ChMS, board-ready and able to answer plain-English questions through MAX. Parable costs more and is narrower on source systems, in exchange for a person-level model and direct access to the data underneath.

The short answer

Choose Holy Insights for ministry metrics, three monthly staff briefs and board exports from $25 a month. Its $80 MAX plan adds plain-English questions and forecasts. Choose Parable when the question has to end in households, become a reusable custom report, or reach SQL rather than stop at a KPI.

Who should choose which

This is a genuine overlap, not a category-page technicality. Both sync Planning Center, combine ministry signals and accept questions in plain English. The useful difference is the depth and shape of the answer.

Choose Holy Insights if…

  • You want thirty-plus ready-made church metrics and a Monday staff brief.
  • You want to start at $25 a month rather than $79 billed yearly.
  • You use Rock RMS, Breeze, Pushpay ChMS, QuickBooks or Aplos as well as — or instead of — Planning Center.
  • You need one-click board PDFs and a presentation deck more than arbitrary reports.
  • You run multiple campuses and want each extra campus priced at $20 a month.

Choose Parable if…

  • Your recurring questions end in named people and households, not only ministry KPIs.
  • You need all eight Planning Center products in one modelled historical schema.
  • The report nobody anticipated matters more than a library of ready-made metrics.
  • You need cohorts and household histories beyond a lifecycle feature that is still labelled beta.
  • Someone on staff wants SQL, Sheets, Power BI or Tableau against the underlying data.

One question, both tools

The same ratio moved. Follow it in two different directions.

“Giving per attendee is down. What changed?”

What Holy Insights tells you

The KPI in context. Holy Insights puts giving per attendee beside its 13-week trend, previous periods, seasonal patterns and the rest of the church dashboard. MAX can explain the movement in plain English, and its Financial Suite adds giving projections and budget scenarios. The result is already shaped for a Monday staff meeting or a board deck, which is exactly the job the product promises.

What Parable tells you

The households inside the ratio. Did giving fall because regular attenders gave less, because givers stopped attending, or because attendance grew faster than giving? Which households changed in the same week, and what were their group and serving patterns before that? The answer can be saved as a report or queried directly from the same person-level model.

Holy Insights starts with the operating metric and prepares the meeting. Parable starts with the question and follows it into the records. A board that needs the pack will prefer the first; a staff member who needs the names may prefer the second.

Conceding the ground they hold

Where Holy Insights is the better buy

Price first. Starter is $25 a month and includes the dashboard, Giving, NextGen, reports and three MAX staff reports a month. That is less than a third of Parable’s yearly-billed entry price, and it is a complete product rather than a token free tier. For a church that needs a clean Monday dashboard, the arithmetic strongly favours them.

The finished outputs are better. Holy Insights generates weekly and monthly board-ready PDFs, staff-meeting briefs and, on MAX, a one-click presentation. Parable gives you dashboards, answers and exports but expects your team to shape the narrative. If Thursday’s elder pack is the recurring pain, buy the tool that already makes the pack.

The integration breadth is not close. Holy Insights publishes six native integrations: Planning Center, Rock RMS, Breeze, Pushpay ChMS, QuickBooks and Aplos, plus CSV. Parable reads Planning Center only. A church whose giving sits in accounting software or whose ministries span systems will get a more complete top-line view there.

And their multi-campus pricing is unusually good. MAX is $80 a month for the first campus and each additional campus is $20. Parable’s Growth plan is flat at $149 billed yearly, so their structure is cheaper through four campuses and still gives each campus its own dashboard and network rollup.

Our own weak spots

Where Parable is the wrong choice

  • We start at $79 a month billed yearly against their $25 monthly Starter plan. For basic metrics and board reports, we are the expensive option.
  • Planning Center only. Holy Insights also connects Rock RMS, Breeze, Pushpay ChMS, QuickBooks and Aplos, plus CSV.
  • No one-click staff brief or presentation deck. We give you the answer and expect your team to decide how to present it.
  • No ministry-research coaching layer. MAX says its context draws on Barna, Pew, Unstuck Group and Ministry Architects; Parable does not make that offer.

Questions people ask us

Is Parable an alternative to Holy Insights?

Yes. Both sync Planning Center, combine attendance and giving, offer dashboards, and answer plain-English questions. Holy Insights is the lower-priced, more packaged metrics product with staff briefs, board exports and six integrations. Parable is the person-level reporting and data layer with reusable custom reports and SQL access. The overlap is real; the depth and output differ.

How much does Holy Insights cost?

When we checked on 26 August 2026, Starter was $25 a month and MAX was $80 a month. Annual billing saves 17%, and additional campuses on MAX cost $20 a month each. They offer a 30-day free trial. Parable starts at $99 monthly or $79 a month billed yearly.

Does Holy Insights connect to Planning Center?

Yes. Planning Center is one of six native integrations, alongside Rock RMS, Breeze, Pushpay ChMS, QuickBooks and Aplos. They also accept CSV data. Parable connects only to Planning Center and reads all eight products into one modelled historical schema.

Is Ask MAX the same as asking Parable?

Both accept plain-English questions, so the honest answer is that they overlap. Holy Insights demonstrates MAX on ministry KPIs, trend context, staff preparation and practical coaching. Parable is designed to turn questions into reports and person or household lists over a modelled Planning Center history. If your question is “how does Easter compare,” either may fit; if it is “which households changed,” test both against your own data.

What does Holy Insights do better?

Ready-made operating rhythm. It starts at $25, generates staff and board material, connects six systems, adds research context, and prices extra campuses at $20. Parable does not match that package or that entry price. Its case begins where the answer needs person-level depth, a reusable arbitrary report or direct warehouse access.

Can we use both?

Technically yes — both can read Planning Center independently — but the dashboard and natural-language overlap is large enough that most churches should prove they need both before paying twice. A plausible split is Holy Insights for the standing Monday and board pack, Parable for household investigations and SQL. Run the same real questions through both during the trials and keep the division only if staff actually use it.

What we checked, and where

Holy Insights in their own words

Holy Insights publishes two plans: Starter at $25 a month with dashboards, Giving, NextGen, reports and three MAX staff reports; and MAX at $80 with unlimited MAX briefs, Trends, Volunteers, Demographics, Financial Suite, Groups, Lifecycle, Care and presentation features. Annual billing saves 17%, extra campuses on MAX cost $20 a month, and the trial is 30 days. Their public feature matrix labels Lifecycle and Care as beta. They publish six native integrations — Planning Center, Rock RMS, Breeze, Pushpay ChMS, QuickBooks and Aplos — plus spreadsheet import. Ask MAX is demonstrated with aggregate and comparative ministry questions; this page does not assume capabilities beyond those examples.
